These days, Port Orange is made up of to over 150 distinct neighborhoods within its 26.4 square miles of city limits. It embraces its diversity and has a population just under 60,000. The local Port Orange Economy is doing very well in with less than 10% underemployment and the economy’s base includes education, health care and government. Speaking of education, there are no less than seven colleges and universities.  So if you have kids and are already thinking about their college education, there are plenty of options for them close to home.  

If you are interested in settling down into a city that has a focus on community as well as recreation Port Orange is perfect. There are many great parks to explore in the area, namely the Spruce Creek Park.  There you will find 536 feet of boardwalk that winds around the nature trails.  You can follow them to a fifteen foot observation tower, or the whole way to Rose Bay. If you love flowers, then the Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens will soon become one of your favorites.  It's maintained by Botanical Gardens of Volusia, a nonprofit organization, that does an amazing job. By the way, admission is free year round.

The biggest event of the year is the Port Orange Family Days festival.  It’s a four daylong event, which includes a carnival, business expos, kid’s games, a parade, food courts, and plenty live entertainment. And of course, there's plenty of shopping.  The Pavilion is the premier open air mall in the area, and it's got a lot of shops to choose from. Filled with many major retailers such as Belk, Marshalls, Hibbett Sports, Michaels, Petco, and many others. As for Dining and entertainment the Pavilion hosts an Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Red Robin, Five Guys, Chuck E. Cheese’s and a Regal Hollywood Theatre for entertainment.  

So, if you're considering moving to Florida, but don't want to find yourself living in a tourist crowded town, consider Port Orange.  It's the perfect little town to call home.
